Thank you to Nordstrom for sponsoring this post!
I can’t even believe I am writing this post. This summer has FLOWN by. The fact that tomorrow is August 1st is seriously crazy to me! That being said, I am really excited for fall. I say it every single year and I’ll say it again. I freaking love fall. There’s something about it that makes me turn into the most basic version of myself: pumpkin flavored everything, leggings and blanket scarves, all the plaid… you get the gist. I have started to piece together my transitional fall wardrobe so I thought I would share with you!

This year is especially different for me. If I was still teaching, I would be going back to work NEXT Monday. It feels a little bittersweet that I won’t be going back. This is the first year I won’t be buying new “work clothes” — I’m not going to lie, it feels kinda good. I dressed pretty casually at work anyway, but now I feel like I can buy whatever fall staples I want, without having to justify it as work stuff.
I really hate when people say “capsule” wardrobe — that’s just not possible for me. I change my mind a lot, and I tend to dress on the trendier side. So I want to just share the top five things I stock up on before fall starts. These are all basics, and I kind of build it up from there. Maybe that is a capsule wardrobe — I have no idea. I think the term just really bothers me, it sounds so pretentious.
Shop Transitional Fall Wardrobe:
- A great pair of dark jeans. I absolutely am obsessed with Good American, as you know. This pair is particularly good for fall. The dark wash is perfect and goes with anything. And I love that the released hem looks super cute with sneakers, booties, and heels. You can’t get more versatile than that. The fit is incredible, and it’s particularly flattering in the thigh and booty area.
- Sweaters & Sweatshirts. Yes, I am the crazy girl who did an entire post on sweatshirts, but I like what I like. I absolutely love this black tie one. It’s so comfy! I like to wear it around the house or out to dinner or running errands. It’s under $50 and comes in four other colors. I also try and get together a good collection of sweaters: I like to mix it up between pullovers, v-necks and cardigans. I will rotate these items throughout the fall. It makes getting dressed so much easier.
- Boots & Sneakers. This is always the time where I buy all my footwear for the fall. I always get a few pairs of boots and sneakers, because that is what I live in. I normally follow these guidelines: one pair of white sneakers, one pair of “trendy” sneakers that I can dress up a little bit, a bootie, a flat boot, and an OTK boot. Good to go until next year!
- Accessories. This is my favorite part of fall shopping, I am holding out until after my birthday to buy these things, in case I get some gift cards (hint, hint Mom). I usually get: a dark pair of sunnies, a darker colored bag, a couple scarves (I love this one and this one), and a few pieces of costume jewelry. I like to wear all my light and bright stuff during the summer and then slowly transition toward darker colored accessories come August and September.
I’m sure it comes as no surprise that I get all of this stuff from Nordstrom. They have an amazing selection for everything fall related. I love that they offer price points for everyone. Plus, I have found that they have the best selection of clothes that flatter my body type.
