I love getting dressed up. Pretty much, I have two happy states. 1.) In my bathrobe in my bed with my husband and kids. OR 2.) In a ballgown. Everything in between… I could take it or leave it. That is why when I saw this amazing skirt – I knew I had to have it for the holidays. It is beautiful, dressy, and perfect for so many holiday occasions… but it is so comfortable… you almost feel like you’re at home in your robe.
I wore this skirt a couple weeks ago to a charity event. I had planned on wearing another skirt, but after a long discussion with my hairdresser, I decided to go home and start from square one. This was not a popular decision in my household. The initial plan was for my husband to pick me up at my hair appointment, and we’d go straight to the event from there. But because I had gotten done early, I had plenty of time to head home and change.
I called my husband.
“Em… the babysitter is here, I am about to step out the door…. the boys are going to LOOSE their minds if you come home and then try to leave again… this is the worst idea you made have ever had.”
But… and I know I’m not alone when I say this… if I don’t feel good about how I look when I head out the door for an event… 99% of the time I end up having a horrible time. Call it shallow, call it insecure, call it whatever you want… it is who I am. When I feel good about how I look, I always have a better time. So home I went.
My husband called me when I was about 5 minutes away from home, “Babe – a Nordstrom package just came – you want me to open it and put it in the closet?” <<< He may have been less than thrilled with me, but he is a good, good man.
I got home, lo and behold, this stunning skirt was in the package. I put it on and it fit – like a glove. Not to mention, it may be THE most slimming item of clothing I have in my whole closet. If you ate a big lunch… guess what? No one is going to know under this gorgeous, full, ballgown skirt. I paired it with a simple black top, black Louboutins, and my new favorite gold statement earrings. And sure enough, I got compliments all night.
My husband even admitted to me on the way to the event… “You were right about changing. You look so beautiful.”
That is when you know you made the right decision. 🙂
