When it comes to skincare while pregnant, there are a lot of rules. You may have to switch up your routine drastically or not at all, and the former can cause a lot of stress. Luckily for me, I didn’t need to change things up too much so I wanted to share my ultimate list of pregnancy skincare. However, please talk to your doctor (dermatologist, OB, what have you) before using any of these products if they’re new to your routine! I’m not an expert—I just know what works best for me!
When I went to my aesthetician in my first trimester, suffering from HORRIBLE pregnancy acne, she had a couple of ideas. Her number one suggestion was to get back to basics. Quit the oil based cleansers/balms and head back to just a simple, gentle, gel cleanser. This is what I started using, HOLY COW… the difference is massive. You guys know how much I love Colleen Rothschild everything, so being able to safely use the Balancing Gel Cleanser while pregnant is such a relief. Every morning and every night, whether I’ve worn makeup that day or not! Love this stuff. It makes such a difference with acne prone skin, and it cleanses gently without stripping your skin.
P50 is without a doubt one of the best things you can do for your skin. It has a cult following and everyone who buys it off my recommendation gets hooked. When I am pregnant, I use the PIGM 400 and it takes care of the extra melasma I get. This stuff is like liquid gold! It exfoliates, hydrates, and balances all in one. It works hard to help hyperpigmentation and dark spots while being extremely gentle on skin, and that’s the best kind of skincare product you can ask for. P50 comes in many variations – all of them enhance epidermal renewal and help regulate melanin synthesis while respecting and protecting the skin. I buy mine from Rescue Spa. The only thing is that you have to have an account to order – but all you have to do is put in your email and information. Super easy.
From the Rescue Spa website: This is a complete solution that helps to recover a luminous and radiant skin with an even and lightened complexion. Removes dead cells and impurities on a daily basis. Enhances epidermal renewal. Lightens the skin, reduces the size of pigmentation marks and prevents them from appearing. Inhibits melanin synthesis. Improves the strength and quality of the epidermis. Unifies and brightens the complexion. Balances pH on the skin’s surface. Improves the efficacity of the other Biologique Recherche products following usage.
Acne Relief:
I swear by this Buffering Lotion from Mario Badescu. It’s a potent sulfur and salicylic-acid solution that helps minimize large clusters of acne, prevent future eruptions, and reduce inflammation and redness and it really, truly works!
I love lemon everything, so it makes sense my face fell in love with this Lemon Lightening Serum from Sorella Apothecary. All you need is a pea size amount to get the most of it, which means it will last you awhile! It always leaves my skin feeling brighter and more even.
Another Colleen Rothschild favorite is her Vitamin C Treatment Complex. Vitamin C improves natural radiance and fights against things like air pollution, stress, and sun damage. If you hadn’t picked up on it already, I have a thing for products that work to lighten and brighten my complexion and this is just another amazing one that does just that.
This is an all-over body powder that works as an acne-banishing treatment by delivering calcium and vitamin C in their most potent state. You just mix a dash of this powder with filtered water and pat it directly onto your face, neck, and décolletage.
Tata Harper’s Repairative Moisturizer is my favorite face moisturizer by far. Anti-aging, vegan, and tons of other amazing qualities with this product!
I cannot leave the house without applying SPF! EltaMD’s broad spectrum SPF 40 facial sunscreen is what I’ve used for so long and what I swear by.
Another CR favorite that I feel is their unsung hero product! I love this stuff so much and find it to be really effective.
Oil:
This is by the same line who makes the dry powder I just spoke about. If you love the powder, you’ll love this daily face serum as well. The best way to describe it is luxurious.
Face masks are a pastime when you’re pregnant, and my favorite one is Colleen Rothschild’s Clarifying Detox Mask. It’s made of activated charcoal and French Kaolin clay, both of which work to detox your pores and leave your skin feeling incredibly fresh. Like a blank canvas!
This is one of two lip balms I use overnight. The Too Faced Hangover Pillow Balm always leaves my lips feeling extra moisturized and soft come the morning, even after a hard night’s sleep. I also love the stick application of it!
Winter, spring, summer, fall. Pregnant or not. The Laneige Sleep Mask is just the best! It’s perfectly heavy, incredibly hydrating, and literally has changed my lips for the better!
