It’s a universal truth that there’s no such thing as too many toys when it comes to one-year-olds. Whatever you can give them to keep them busy and distracted works, and most definitely helped us (and continue to help us) through Baby Joe’s first year! With Baby GIRL #2 on the way (did you miss our low-key gender reveal on the ‘gram?!), I am holding on tight to all of these toys so she can play with them when the time comes. Since he stayed home with me since the day he was born it was important to get him some of the best developmental toys to hit those milestones!
Best Toys for One-Year-Olds
Dust, Sweep and Mop Set
They’re never too young to learn about helping out around the house, and this adorable Dust, Sweep, and Mop set is perfect for play and practice! He sweeps and mops literally all day long
Glo Pals
One day Baby Joe just started hating bath time but this seemed to help. This light-up sensory water toy glows as soon as they dunk it in the water and loves swimming around in bubbles almost as much as them!
Mobi Zipee
Baby Joe has been obsessed with this since we bought it for him. If you’re trying not to rely on TV or iPad as a crutch, this Mobi Zippee toy is amazing for their sensory development, encouraging early language, cause and effect, problem-solving, and motor skills! Plus, he loves playing with cords and that is definitely not the safest.
Punch Drop
Crafted from solid rubber wood, this hammer and ball set will keep them entertained for hours. Hammer the ball through the hole, watch it roll out, and do it all over again! It’s a great toy for hand-eye coordination.
Sorting Bus
This is such a sweet toy that provides serious entertainment. It has a little rope so your baby can pull it along easily behind them and has different stacking shapes for them to play with to develop early math and problem-solving skills.
Walk n Roll
This is such a classic toy for a one-year-old and Baby Joe loves it! The bright colors and the noise this toy makes when the inner wooden ball hits the panels is mystifying for young babes. He is so obsessed
Shape Sorter
One-year-olds can’t get enough of shapes, and this is another classic problem-solving toy to help your little one practice which shapes fit which holes over and over again!
Bunny Stacker
What I love so much about all these Plan Toys x pbk items is that they also look so great in your child’s room. If you’re trying to keep their surroundings calm, the muted colors work perfectly. This bunny stacker is so adorable and a great way to help your one-year-old practice cognitive skills and dexterity! He is really into unstacking too LOL
Lovevery Playkits
We have been subscribed to LOVEVERY since Baby Joe was a newborn! All of the sweet games packed into this kit encourage new challenges in balance, object permanence, and spatial awareness, as well as an early introduction to physics. I am obsessed with every play kit LOVEVERY has to offer, though, so be sure to look around because there is so much to consider! I kept every single box and booklet so I can use it for all or future babies too.
Teepee
What one-year-old doesn’t want their own little space in this world? Playing hide and seek in this teepee or giving them a moment of “me” time are invaluable moments of fun. You can even get it monogrammed so they know it’s their special little home!
Wooden Blocks
These numbered and lettered wooden blocks are not only stimulating for your little one, but gorgeous, too. Each block has an intricate (and coordinated) illustration etched on one side to further engage and teach them. Plus, the’re not ugly.
Music Set
Make music with your little one with this 17 piece musical set from Amazon! This amazing musical pack includes a xylophone, 2 maracas, 2 egg shakers, 2 finger clappers, tambourine, drum sticks, wood sounder, 2 wrist bells, and a triangle with a striker (my personal favorite).
Poppin Pals
Meet your baby’s new best friends: Giraffe, elephant, panda, lion, and monkey! Bright colors, numbers, cute critters, and endless fun make this a favorite hands-on toy. The lever, beeper, key, and switches are designed for little fingers to easily manipulate and make the animals POP over and over! My trainer bought this for him and he loves it,
Music Table
Another highly engaging music toy for your one-year-old is this LeapFrog Learn and Groove Musical Table. It comes with a variety of 70+ songs, tunes, and learning responses including numbers, letters, shapes, and colors! You will be jamming out to classic children’s tunes like “old MacDonald” and “Itsy Bitsy spider.” This helped him so much with learning to stand too!
Fisher-Price Pony
Get them their first (and probably last) pony with this Fisher-price Walk Bounce & Ride Pony that comes with 50+ musical tunes, sounds, and phrases! The lights and sounds encourage your little one to keep pushing, walking, and riding as they grow, and it’s the most adorable playtime you will ever witness, trust me! This was a Christmas gift from my sister and he has played with it every day since.
