I adore the Fourth of July. It is without a doubt one of my favorite holidays.
Growing up, my family had a house in the Adirondacks, in upstate New York, and that is where my love of the Fourth of July started. Every year we would make the four hour trekk from our home in Connecticut, and my sister and I could hardly wait to arrive at the “Farren Camp.”
Once we arrived at our summer home, we would play with our cousins all day long – swimming in the lake, waterskiing and tubing until we couldn’t hold on any longer. Then, we’d have a huge bonfire on the beach and shoot fireworks off into the night’s sky. We’d roast marshmallows, have s’mores, and find all the constellations we knew. I have some of the fondest memories of the Fourth of July, and I cannot wait to make similar memories with our boys.
That being said, I also LOVE Fourth of July fashion. I don’t think you have to take it super literally – you won’t find me wearing an American flag t-shirt. But you will find me wearing this amazing gingham maxi dress. It is so comfy, so summery, and gingham is such an American classic – you can’t go wrong. I also love that this dress is a touch more sophisticated than just your normal gingham shirt.
This year, our family will be up in Lake Tahoe celebrating the Fourth of July. We’re heading up the Thursday before and staying up at our cabin for the whole week. I kind of love that it falls on a Tuesday this year. It’s almost like you have to celebrate all week long. Are you celebrating it the weekend before, or do you celebrate on the actual day? What are your plans?
To help you out with your Fourth Fashion, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite Red, White and Blue items below. Be sure to shop them soon – the Fourth of July is only two weekends away. << I know, I know – where does the time go?!??!
