Before we left for fashion week, someone told us that by day 3, we would be completely over it. We both thought “no way” — but come day three, they were kind of right. Over it isn’t the correct way to put it — but we were exhausted, dehydrated, and over extended. But, we weren’t going to let all of that bring us down. We were at New York Fashion Week, after all! We had a show first thing in the morning, and we were still feeling a little fatigued. But once we got backstage at Rebecca Minkoff, the energy totally revitalized us.

We left Clarkson Square and headed to SoHo to go backstage on behalf of GE Reveal lighting. As we arrived, we could see that Rebecca had shut down the entire block in front of her Greene St. boutique and turned the cobblestone street into a runway. It was amazing to say the very least. The backstage area was located inside the Magnum ice cream shop. One of the things we loved most about this event, was that Minkoff chose bloggers to walk in her show. she said:
“When we decided to take our show to the streets, we wanted to include girls that our consumers know as fearless, liberated, innovative and stylish,” Minkoff explained to Refinery29 in an e-mail. “They’re their own champions and with the street concept it felt important to add the realistic element of who the quintessential Minkoff girl is. Arielle, Chriselle, Gala, Caroline and Shea completely embody those qualities — they break the rules and re-write them.”
All bloggers know that lighting is everything, and the folks at GE have it figured out. We had a rough lighting situation at our hotel, which made getting ready a little difficult. Going backstage just proved how important lighting really is.The models looked stunning & their makeup looked flawless GE Reveal LED bulbs helps people see more vibrantly and illuminates colors making it a must-have backstage for styling looks and applying makeup. One of the biggest struggles we face when shooting at home is finding the perfect light, the GE reveal technology is perfect for indoor use as it provides clean, beautiful light and perfect to snap looks for fashion week. The bulbs help you see clearly and help see things you wouldn’t see in normal lighting. Buying these for my hair and makeup room ASAP.
One of the other key points from Minkoff: it was completely runway to retail. After the show was over, she invited all the attendees into her boutique to shop the collection immediately. Tom Ford & Thakoon also followed this model this season. Fashion is changing — like it or not, but we are on board. Shop it below.

After the Rebecca Minkoff show, we headed to the Shop Style event at the Glass Houses, which was absolutely incredible. We got to chat with a bunch of our favorite blogger ladies, take in the sweeping views of Manhattan, and sip on some champagne (or water in Emily’s case). We hadn’t eaten in hours and had been running around all day, someone mentioned Mexican food- so we went to Dos Caminos for lunch with some of our favorite SF bloggers, Beyond Casual, Sassy Red Lipstick, Fashion Born, and one of our favorite ladies in PR, Katie from Lola and Ivy. Lunch was amazing, but ended up taking quite a while, and unfortunately, we missed two shows we had really been looking forward to attending. That’s just how NYFW works. Between delays, traffic, and jam-packed schedules, sometimes your schedule just doesn’t pan out. Later on in the week we will be writing about what we learned, and what we will be doing differently next season.
After lunch, we had to jet over to Bryant Park to shoot with the lovely Megan Weaver. One of the coolest experiences of NYFW was getting to shoot with so many different photographers. We get so used to shooting with our tried and true photographers that we forget how many amazing other people there are out there. We shot on the steps of the library — and took in all the sights.
By this time, we were completely exhausted, so we headed home to our hotel, The Carlton, to decompress and to catch up on the blog. We laid in bed, rolled some Sole Serum on our tired feet, talked to our families and took some time for us. That night we met up with Sarah and Bianca again, strolled the aisles of Eataly, and then ate Shake Shack in Madison Square Park by the light of the Empire State Building. It was such an amazing “New York” experience and we felt SO lucky to be able to share it with such wonderful women and friends. As we were ending dinner and picking at our cheese fries, we decided to each share a low and a high of our first NYFW experiences. It was awesome. We laughed, we cried, and the night ended up being such an amazing and cathartic way to end our third day of NYFW. We will be sharing these with you shortly. Stay tuned for Day 4 tomorrow — it was the icing on the fashion cake!
