I am a pretty horrible pregnancy dresser. I’ll be the first one to admit it.
I never get “inventive” with my outfits, I hate wearing tight clothing that shows my bump, and I try to put off the “dreaded maternity jeans” until the last possible second. True story. Last week – at 20 weeks pregnant – I was at work and my stomach was aching because my pants were too tight. Only then did I finally dig my maternity jeans out of storage. I should have done it weeks before.
Why did I wait so long? God only knows.
That’s a lie. I know exactly why I did it. I was trying to hold onto any sense or part of my former (non pregnant) self. I have done it every pregnancy. And don’t get me wrong, pregnancy is a beautiful thing. But personally, I, just don’t feel 100% confident, or 100% like myself when I am pregnant. Yes – I am aware – this is a me problem, but I’d be willing to bet some serious money that I’m not alone in feeling this way.
I think many women deal with a little bit of body anxiety during pregnancy.
Personally, I’m not one of those women that has a cute little bump from the get go. Nah. I gain weight in my butt, thighs, and arms long before there’s any sign of a baby. My stomach squares off around week 8… and from there until about week 25… I just look like a larger version of myself. Only after that, can you actually tell I’m pregnant.
Now – because this is my 3rd go around… I am well versed in the art of first trimester outfit staples… AKA concealing the burrito bump. <<< That’s what I like to call that thing that doesn’t quite yet look like a baby. Full disclosure… if you are one of those pregnant girls who loves showing off her first trimester bump… eh… this post probably isn’t for you. But if you’re like me, and you like to dress in slimming, classic, neutrals, that conceal what’s going on underneath… well… then you should find something you like.
My first trimester outfit staples are: longline jackets, tunic tops, comfy pants (I size up in my jeans before I actually commit to maternity jeans) and mules.
I have linked ALL my favorites below. Happy shopping, Loves!
