This post is all about starting the new year off with some updated wardrobe staples. The busier I get, the less time I have to plan my outfits and focus on what I’m wearing. And I know I’m not the only one. Kind of inspired by Emily’s capsule wardrobe post, I wanted to pick up some new items that were extremely versatile and that I could wear in multiple different ways!

My first stop when I was back in town from the holidays was Nordstrom. I wanted to start off 2017 with a few new pieces! Most people would define wardrobe staples as things like: a blazer, a black cashmere cardigan, a great pair of slacks. Those things just aren’t me. But I did want to pick up some “staple” pieces that were more on the trendy side — but that will stay in style.
One of the new words I learned last year was: coatigan. A cross between a coat and a cardigan… how genius is that? And when I saw this one, I knew I had to have it. It’s so warm & cozy, plus it’s not incredibly bulky. The best part is, it’s under $100! I also picked up this feminine black top, with a tie detail and a slight bell sleeve. It’s also available in this gorgeous moth print! For the new year, I decided to switch my bag to one of my favorites: the Pashli. Since it’s winter and I’ll most likely be wearing black 99% of the time, I wanted to add some color into the mix with this bag. This bag is the perfect size and so much fun to carry!
Below I chose some basic staple items that have a little edge to them, making them a little less basic. What are your favorite items for 2017?
