The Truth About Botox

Ashley Zeal from Two Peas in a Prada shares her experience getting Botox at Skin Spirit Palo Alto from registered nurse Michelle Jones.

Today I am sharing the truth about Botox. I went back and forth a few times about whether I wanted to post my Botox experience on the blog, but I told you guys from day one that I was going to keep it real. This was my third time getting Botox at SkinSpirit Palo Alto. I wanted to make sure that I loved it and the results before I recommended it to you guys.

If you remember this post, then you know that I go to SkinSpirit for all of my skin issues. When the time came to get Botox, I knew there was nowhere else I wanted to receive treatment. I had always promised myself that at the age of 30, I would start getting Botox. I probably could have started around 27-28, but 30 was always the magic number in my head so that’s what I went with.

I want to start by saying a few words about my practitioner, Michelle Jones. She has done all of my Botox sessions — and always makes each appointment better than the next. Michelle earned her Bachelors of Science in Exercise Biology from UC Davis and did her nursing school in Long Beach. In her free time, Michelle loves to paint, is a certified Pilates instructor, and is about to begin applying to Masters in Nursing programs. Michelle is pint-sized, but fiery, and always makes sure to explain every step in detail.

A ton of my friends have gotten Botox and fillers before, so I wasn’t too nervous — more just anxious to see my results. The first time I got Botox, I only did in between the brows and on my crows feet, in the corners of my eyes. Michelle wanted me to feel comfortable about the process so we started with those areas first. I appreciated her honest approach — I know a lot of people who wouldn’t do that. I LOVED my results the first time, and so the second time, I went ahead and let her do my forehead too.

Here is why I love Botox: it makes you feel more confident, I find that I have to wear less makeup because my skin is so smooth without it, I feel much prettier and find that I am less harsh on myself when I am looking at photos.

I wanted to share this experience with you guys for a few reasons. The first is, I wish I had read something like this to prep me before my first time. And the second is to try and end that ridiculous taboo that women should have to be ashamed or embarrassed for any “work” they have had done. I think it’s such a silly thing that women are still getting criticized for making decisions about their own body. If it makes you feel good, DO IT!

If you are thinking about getting Botox, I highly recommend you contact SkinSpirit Palo Alto to set up a consultation to Michelle, if you aren’t near Palo Alto, check out their other locations here. Tell them I (Ashley Zeal or Two Peas) referred you and you will get 10 FREE UNITS of Botox Cosmetic (that’s almost 50% off your first area) — I promise you’re in excellent hands. Be sure to check out my before and after photos below 🙂

ONE YEAR UPDATE:

It has been almost a year since I wrote this post, and a full year and a half since I started getting Botox. Honestly, I will never go back to not getting it. It makes me so much more confident and happy. Call me shallow; but it’s true. I can laugh as hard as I want without worrying about my crow’s feet. I never have to spend the extra minutes editing my forehead wrinkles out of photos, and no matter how mad I am, you can never tell on my face, ha!

I am still obsessed with all things SkinSpirit. Since this post I have gone back in for: CoolSculpt, Laser Hair Removal and today is my last round of Kybella. I get SO many questions about this — and I promise I will do a post in the next six weeks once all of the results have settled. I can’t recommend SkinSpirit enough!

  1. I would LOVE to hear about your Cool Sculpting experience too! I’m considering that, but would love an honest opinion and result pics!

  2. Thanks for pointing out that the most comfortable areas to start with are the crows feet part and the brows. I will share this tip with my best friend to help her out. This is perfect since she has crows feet on both her eyes already even if she is not even thirty years old. It might have been due to being the most smiley person that I know.

  3. I just started at 26 and will never go back! It really does me a difference and I feel so confident after getting it. The best part is people can never tell what’s “different”.
