To My Best Friend on her Birthday

Happy Birthday Mashy!

I wish I could celebrate with you today, but since I can’t, I thought I would let everyone know just how special you are, and why I love you so much.

– You make other people happier just by being there.
– When you walk into the room, the party gets 100% more entertaining.
– You are the best DJ. I feel like our lives have been played out to a soundtrack created by you. From Stevie Nicks, to Lindsay Lohan, to Rod Stewart to Lil Wayne – every song reminds me of you.
– You are the best person to road trip with. From the snacks, to the playlists, to the laughing until we cry, I wouldn’t want to be stuck in a car with anyone else.
– You never judge – ever.
– Your laugh is infectious.
– Everything you do, you do it with your whole heart.
– People just want to be around you and you have more friends than anyone I know. You are a collector of people and you make everyone feel special and important.
– You have given me an appreciation for football, and when I make stupid comments at games you just say, “Oh man Emmy Lou!”
– You actually write cards for every holiday and birthday.
– Conversation is never dull when you’re around – you actually say what everyone else is thinking.
– You never let me leave the house under-accessorized. “Emmy you need more bangles!!” resonates in my head every time I get dressed.
– You are there for me unconditionally. You have been there for my most trying moments, hugging me and telling me it’s going to be ok –  and you  have been there for my happiest moments, toasting, smiling, and laughing with joy.
– You keep everyone around you honest and you demand authenticity.
– You have made me a better person.
– You are my person.

I love you so much, and I am so thankful you were born on this day!

— Now go chug a glass of wine and listen to “Forever Young” on repeat —
May the good lord be with you
Down every road you roam
And may sunshine and happiness
Surround you when you’re far from home
And may you grow to be proud
Dignified and true
And do unto others
As you’d have done to you
Be courageous and be brave
And in my heart you’ll always stay
Forever young, forever young
Forever young, forever young
