One of the best tips my girlfriend, Hillary, gave me was to take maternity photos. I vehemently opposed — my entire pregnancy had already been documented and shooting takes everything out of me these days. But after seeing these photos I am so happy that I will have these sweet memories to look back on.

What to Wear for Maternity Photos
I didn’t have a clue what to wear and wanted to be very much myself. A few problems came up while I was planning for the shoot. First, the weather. Snow makes for gorgeous photos — but impossible to be practical. I improvised and added some layers. Secondly, absolutely no shoes – and I mean none fit. I was freaking out about my swollen feet and ankles – this was at the height of it. The week leading up to it, I was like well, this isn’t going to work and ordered a long dress that would totally hide my feet so I could wear my Uggs. Well, at this same time, a storm decided to roll in and my package didn’t come in time! Basically, everything that could go wrong, did. But we figured it out! Would I normally wear these sneakers in the snow? No. Will I look back and laugh? Yes. And that’s all that matters!
I know for most people, the idea of having a photoshoot is super stressful. Something I forget about because we are doing it constantly. But it’s still stressful for us too, so if you’re not used to it – I can’t even imagine the pressure. Then add pregnancy hormones into the mix, and I can only imagine. So today I am going to share what to wear for maternity photos to least take that stress & pressure away from you!
I scoured Pinterest for some inspiration photos – I didn’t want anything overly done and wanted to make sure that both of our styles and personalities still came out in the photos. Next, I had to decide what kind of dress I wanted to wear: I prefer fitted, and it matched with the location. I did order one gown – but like I said, it didn’t come in time. I think if I were to have a summer baby, I would love to do a more floral, boho look. So depending on your due date and your style – go from there!
As I write this post, it’s still winter, but I want you guys to be able to shop my favorite stores for any season – so just click on the store names below for my favorites!
Pink Blush Maternity
When I was actually dressing up, this is where I shopped the most. I knew how it would fit, and love that they offer most all of their pieces in non-maternity also so I could still link for you guys. I wore one of their dresses to my baby shower! Their basics are my favorite!
Another amazing and affordable site. My only complaint is that things sell out SO fast, so if you see a dress in your size, scoop it up, because it could be gone the next day!
Gorgeous, classic, high-end pieces with a price tag to match. Some of their pieces are designed to be worn after the baby is born, so that helps when you think about the price. Their looks are so flattering, and you can tell they are so well made. I love them because they don’t look like your typical maternity pieces. So perfect for weddings too!

Trendy and affordable. If I have another baby, I will definitely be shopping here more! I love that their pieces look super modern and new. I love maternity clothes that don’t make you feel different if that makes sense. This is the place you can still express your own style – even 9 months pregnant. Something I wish I would have worked on more!
