Slip Into Something Comfortable

I get asked all the time who my style icons are… women whose styles I admire and emulate.

For me – it’s the easiest question in the world to answer. And oddly enough – they are all easily known by three letter monikers.

CBK. LSD. and MMB.

In plain English: Carolyn Bessette Kennedy, Lauren Santo Domingo, and Meredith Melling Burke.

They’re all classic, understated, brainy, blonde, beauties with minimalistic styles… and when I get dressed in the morning – when I’m thinking clearly enough – I often times ask myself, “What would CBK do?” Although we were born decades apart, we grew up in the same little town in Connecticut, and I think we would have been kindred spirits.

That being said, the slip dress is back in a major way this fall. Calvin Klein’s show, today at NYFW, was slip dress mania…see here also see here, and here. And when I think of the slip dress… I think 90’s, I think understated elegance… and mainly, I think CBK on her wedding day. If you don’t know what I’m talking about… click here (second slide in). She was the epitome of classic beauty. In fact… I chose my second wedding dress with her in mind.

I have a couple of formal events to attend this fall and winter, and since the slip dress is back in such a huge way, I decided I’d pay homage to CBK and invest in one. In short, this Nili Lotan number has become one of my favorite pieces in my closet. You can dress it up like I did in this post… or dress it down, like Dakota Fanning here.

Fun fact about Nili Lotan – if you’re not familiar with the Israeli-American designer – before starting her own line, she was the head designer at Ralph Lauren. I love her simple, yet luxurious aesthetic, and I cannot wait to slowly add more of her designs to my wardrobe.

Back to the dress… it feels classic, sexy, and understated. It’s definitely an investment piece, but I know I’ll have it forever. And, the fact that I’m channeling CBK, really puts a smile on my face.

So… if you don’t have your very own slip dress for fall… don’t worry – I’ve linked my favorites below. Enjoy… and slip into something comfortable! XooX

Also – since I love when you  all comment – who are your fashion icons? I’d love to know who inspires you!
