I have been given the greatest birthday gift of all time this year, the return of my very favorite show BH90210. Emily was a huge fan too! It truly defined our childhood and adolescent years. In honor of this amazing news – we are taking a trip down memory lane and sharing the story of how we met (our About Page truly does our story no justice). Some of you may know it, but most of you do not. And we definitely have never shared high school photos on the blog before. So before we celebrate our favorite cast getting back together, let’s go back to where it all began.
How We Met and the Return of BH90210
Like the Walshes, Emily moved from the West Coast to the East Coast. We met in the very classroom you see in the photo below. I was a sophomore, and Emily was a freshman. She walked into my microbiology class and everyone was fascinated by the new pretty girl. She was very mature for her age, and her East Coast vibe was something us Reno folk had never seen before. When Emily pulled out her Duwop Lip Venom — who remembers this OG lip plumper– and I had the exact same one in my bag, I knew we would be friends forever. This is where it all began – and although we truly couldn’t be more different – we had so many core beliefs that were the same. Obviously, our love of beauty and fashion were what bonded us at first, but it goes deeper than that.
Like the characters on the show, we went through some of life’s most dramatic events together. At least they seemed like it at the time. I can’t tell you how many breakups and makeups we went through together, we made lots of mistakes and a lifetime of memories. Not to get too sentimental, but leaving for college was SO sad – because I had to leave her behind. But it only took one trip of her visiting me at Santa Clara for her to decide she wanted to go there too. Just a few years after college graduation, we started the blog and here we are today. No matter where life took us, we were always a constant in each other’s lives and we truly are so blessed to be able to work together every single day now. Because of how far back we go, the process is totally seamless and we can usually predict each other’s moves before they even happen.
Like all the characters on the show, the main theme of our story is friendship. Instead of the Peach Pit, we had Caughlin Park. Instead of West Beverly, we had tiny little Manogue. Just like we have grown up and changed — we cannot wait to see where all the characters’ stories pick back up. It seems like yesterday that Donna married David and we are counting down the days to start watching again.
